Day 2 || Just Run

Half Marathon Training (14 weeks)
Week 1

Hello all!
The training has begun. WHEW! I'll start by giving you my schedule for the week:

Monday: off
Tuesday: 3 miles
Wednesday: off
Thursday: 3 miles
Friday: off
Saturday: 3 miles
Sunday: 3 miles

...... yes.. this is only week 1. I know what you're thinking..WHY?! I'm not 100% sure why I want to do this. I can say that I've always wanted to run a half marathon but always made excuses for myself; asthma, bad knees, the list goes on. These complaints are real but it's never an excuse if you really want something. I grew up running.. literally. You couldn't keep me in one place. Energizer bunny. In middle school I ran track; long distance and went on to high school and competed in Cross Country and Track again- always long distance. (I'm not very quick- they booted me from ANY activity that involved being speedy) I enjoyed it. Most people didn't understand that but I LOVED running. There is something about running.... many things. I won't get into that now- You have 14 weeks to here ALL about it if you choose to go on this journey with me.

Tuesday {Feb. 28th}

I arrived home from work around 3:30pm. I was very EXCITED to run my FIRST 3 miles... weird. So excited that I fell asleep on the couch only to wake up TWO hours later... whoops (apparently I needed it). Not to mention... I had a HORRIBLE stomach ache. I decided I would run my first 3 miles at our little apartment gym. I was relived to be the only person in there. Groggy, stomach ache, and tired; I was determined to get these miles done as quick as possible. I turned on my most favorite band in the WORLD; needtobreathe. (fitting for how I was feeling)
I ran.
Let me remind you, I hadn't been running prior. At all. Nothing. To my surprise I ran the first mile without stopping. Took me awhile but I did it.

Mile 1:
Time: 12:50
Speed: 5.00 MPH

Mile 2 was not fun. My stomach was cramping and I was not having it. This was my walk/run mile.

Mile 2:
Time: 19:70
Speed: run/walk

I had to STOP after completing mile 2 and RUN to the bathroom...(sorry all) I like to document all details but I will make a few exceptions with this one. After my bathroom break I felt like a new woman. I jumped back on that treadmill and ran through the last mile. I didn't want to stop- so I didn't.

Mile 3:
Time: 12:38
Speed: 5:00/6:00

Woo hoo! 12 seconds faster than my 1st mile. Total time: 44.58
I felt like a million bucks. I totally strutted out of the gym- proud as could be. I did it. (only day 1, haha) You would have thought I just completed the half marathon. Success.

Until next time...

Always remember that your present situation is not your final destination. The best is yet to come.
